We’re stubborn. Not just about our premium Hawaii-grown coffee, but in how we give back and care for our four-legged friends that inspired our name.

Our Give a Hoof program pays tribute to the generations of donkeys in Kona, Hawaii that once carried loads of coffee beans down the steep volcanic mountain sides. The early farmers of Kona named these hardworking donkeys “the badass ones” because of their reliably strong, but stubborn nature.  

Through sponsorships with various non-profits focused on caring for donkeys and providing them with secure and nurturing environments, such as Leilani Farm Sanctuary on Maui and Longhopes Donkey Shelter in Colorado, Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is proud to give back to the community and support the well-being of these beloved animals. 

When you purchase our Give a Hoof merchandise, you contribute to supporting donkeys in rescue situations at shelters in Hawaii and Colorado. These much-needed funds help rescue wild and abandoned donkeys facing threats to their survival, providing them with the safe environments they deserve.  

Mattie

Mattie was rescued along with six other donkeys from a slaughterhouse in 2011. Longhopes Donkey Shelter stepped in just in time to save them. Mattie and her best friend Patsy were later adopted in 2013 but eventually rehomed again. When their new family could no longer care for them, Longhopes welcomed them back with open arms. Now, Mattie and Patsy are cherished permanent residents, safe and loved for life.

Schroeder

Schroeder came to Longhopes Donkey Shelter after a call for help involving neglected donkeys from a failed petting zoo. Upon arrival, we discovered an old shoulder injury, likely from years of hardship. Now a senior, Schroeder receives arthritis shots, massages, and chiropractic care to keep him comfortable. Surrounded by other donkeys and a caring team, he will live out his days safely and peacefully at Longhopes.

Laser

Laser's journey has been marked by resilience and hope. After being sold to an inexperienced owner, he was surrendered to Longhopes Donkey Shelter, where he received much-needed attention, training, and medical care. Now, he enjoys the company of other donkeys and the care of dedicated staff and volunteers, improving his health and finding hope in his permanent home.
